Hey, I’m Jack – Your 12-Handicap Guide to Better Golf
I’ve been grinding on golf courses for years, and I’m still a 12-handicap. And you know what? That’s exactly why you should listen to me.
Why a 12-Handicap?
I’m not a scratch golfer telling you how easy it is to hit perfect shots. I’m not a teaching pro selling you the latest swing theory. I’m a real golfer who plays 2-3 times a week, struggles with the same shots you do, and has tried every piece of advice out there.
I know what it’s like to:
- Stand over a 6-foot putt with money on the line
- Hit it pure on the range, then chunk it on the first tee
- Buy equipment thinking it’ll fix your game (spoiler: it usually doesn’t)
- Break 80 one day, then shoot 90 the next
My Golf Journey
I started playing when I was 6 years old and have been playing on and off since then. Like most golfers, I’ve had my ups and downs – going from terrible rounds to decent ones and back again. I’ve bought every golf magazine, watched every YouTube video, and tried every tip from well-meaning playing partners.
The problem? Most golf advice is either:
- Too basic (we’ve all heard “keep your head down”)
- Too advanced (sorry, I can’t hit it like Rory)
- Complete marketing nonsense designed to sell you something
Golf as a Dad
Being a father of two has completely changed how I approach golf. I don’t have the luxury of spending entire weekends on the course or hitting balls for hours after work. My practice time is precious and limited.
This constraint has actually made me a better golfer in some ways. When you only have 60 minutes to practice, you can’t waste time on things that don’t work. You focus on what actually improves your scores. You learn to be efficient with your time and strategic about your improvement.
My kids have taught me:
- Golf time is earned, not given
- Quality practice beats quantity every time
- Having fun matters more than perfect scores
- Patience (both on the course and at home)
- How to find golf anywhere (yes, putting practice in the living room counts)
Some of my best golf memories now involve my kids – whether it’s them riding along in the cart, “helping” me look for balls, or just understanding why dad gets excited about breaking 80.
What I’ve Learned
After years of trial and error, I’ve figured out what actually works for regular golfers. Not tour pros. Not scratch players. Regular golfers who want to shoot lower scores and have more fun.
I’ve learned that better golf comes from:
- Course management over perfect swings
- Equipment that fits your actual game, not your aspirations
- Practice that focuses on what matters most
- Honest self-assessment instead of wishful thinking
Why The Original Golfer’s Co?
There are thousands of golf sites out there, but most are either selling you dreams or talking down to you. I wanted to create something different – honest advice from someone who’s still figuring it out.
Here’s what you’ll get:
- Real equipment reviews from someone who actually plays with the clubs
- Course management tips that work for 12-handicaps, not scratch golfers
- Honest takes on what works and what doesn’t
- No BS advice about improving your game
My Goal
I want to help you enjoy golf more and shoot lower scores. Not by promising you’ll be scratch in 6 months, but by sharing the real strategies that have helped me go from a 25 to a 12 – and hopefully lower.
Whether you’re trying to break 100 for the first time or looking to get from the low 80s to the 70s, I’ve been there. I’ve made the mistakes, bought the wrong equipment, and learned the hard way.
Let me help you skip some of those mistakes.
